David Keast is a life member of the Belmont District Cricket Club. David is a club legend who continues to put immense time into the club both on and off the field.
What year were you born?
1973.
Can you remember your first game of cricket?
19 – not very good
Tell us briefly about your cricketing journey.
Started playing for Belmont in 1992 as a younger slow bowler off a long run & still playing as an old slower bowler off 2 steps.
In which grade and at what age did you make your debut in senior cricket?
19 years old – 3rd grade.
What was the highest grade you played, and can you remember how you performed in your first game in that grade?
1st grade Belmont DCC – only remember being overwhelmed at playing with the likes of Steve Clarkson, Allan Sharp & Greg Charlton. Played a couple of Rep games for Newcastle with the like of Murray Christie & Steve Mace & co
How would you describe yourself as a cricketer?
A deprived opening batsman who got to bowl a bit.
What were your strengths as a player?
Team player.
What was your highest score in senior cricket?
41 if my memory serves me.
What were your best bowling figures in senior cricket?
7 for, I believe.
Who were the best three fast bowlers you have played against?
Darren Herbert, Mark McLachlan & Mark Cameron. Notable mention to Chris Killen (was glad he was on our team)

Who were the best three spinners you have played against?
Steve Storey, Mark Curry, Robert Holland & Dave Wixon. I was even luckier to be coached by them all at some point and spent a few seasons bowling in partnership with Dave.

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?
Greg Geise & Wallsend No 1 – hands down the best innings I have seen – I wish I hadn’t though.
Was there any bowler or batter in particular who, for whatever reason, always seemed to cause you a few problems?
Any bowler who sends the ball on the pitch. Every batsman who walked to the crease.

Can you recall a time when you thought, wow, this is a step or two up from what you were used to in grade cricket?
I remember the first time I played a game for the Newcastle Rep Team – Murray Christie was Captain and Gus Gillmore & Greg Geise were coaching. I remember sitting in the shed before the game started, looking around the shed, thinking – what am I doing here?
Who was the best wicket keeper you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?
Playing Against - Simon Moore. Josh Porter & Marcus Hainsworth in my Grade days. In the Vets cricket, Matty Turner & Paul Clarke.

Mark Curry, Steve Clarkson & Mark Littlewood.

Steve Clarkson. He was a steward of the game.
Who has been your funniest teammate?
Marcus Hainsworth – hands down.

My Father.

Steve Waugh, Roger Federer & Liz Ellis.

What particular team did you especially look forward to playing against?
Charlestown DCC – crosstown rivals
What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket?
Playing every Saturday with some of your best mates on a field of dreams.
What’s the best win you’ve been involved with?
NSW O50’s Vets day/night game in Toowoomba.
Who are the four players from your playing days at the top of the list for a Saturday afternoon barbeque?
Peter Barnett, Matty Eastham, Greg Charlton & Dave Wrixon.
What are your hobbies?
Fishing & Boating.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability.
What is your occupation, and who do you work for?
Architectural Draftsman @ Superior Home Designs
Are you still involved in cricket, and if so, in what capacity?
Still at Belmont DCC, playing games with my Son & Daughter who have started their journeys in cricket. Have also been playing Vets Cricket with like-minded knee-cracking pensioners.
