The Tahs (formerly Waratahs Cricket Club of Armidale) are thrilled to report on the progress being made by the first recipient of our Ian Campbell Scholarship.
Brooke Moran, a 14 year allrounder from Armidale, this week had the first of her dreams come true, training with Manly Warringah District Cricket Club's women's team and then having a one on one session with Hannah Darlington. As a result, Brooke has accepted an offer to be part of the Manly Waratahs pathways program.
The Tahs are a non playing club which was formed among the remnants of Waratahs, long after the club ceased to exist as a playing entity. It aims to promote well being and support for its members and to encourage junior development through its Ian Campbell Scholarship.
Manly Warringah Waratahs have generously offered their support of the scholarship by providing an opportunity for a young country cricketer to be exposed to a higher level of cricket experience and advice from the players they look up to.

No names, no pack drills……

I’m sure you know who you are.

The academy coaching structure in India is broken.

The Academy structure is failing more than 60% of junior cricketers.

Too many parents are paying money for absolutely nothing.

We’ve had 40% of cricketers turn up for trials who have been paying for academy coaching for 2/3 years and they don’t even have a decent set up.

The boys we’ve seen are “chucking “and their parents have been paying big money to mainly large franchise academies for 3/4 years.. It’s sad and embarrassing watching them bowl and even more embarrassing when their non-cricket parents think they’re doing fine.

Some parents are just not aware that their children are going backwards, not forwards…

It’s nothing short of theft…

If your child was going backwards at school grades in math, science etc., parents would be asking what the teacher and school was doing…

The analogy is the same with cricket… parents do need to ask why their child isn’t improving at cricket… particularly after 1/2/3 years of academy coaching and paying the big fees..

In my opinion it’s the academies who have multiple franchises and or a large number of academies are the biggest culprits…

Think McDonalds or Burger King… … that’s how too many of our kids are being served cricket.

It’s simply a process line of people and cricket…. Do you want pickles, mayonnaise?

Most parents are getting pickled and creamed big time!!!

Kent Cricket is delighted to announce that Adam Hollioake is Kent Men’s new Head Coach until at least the end of the 2027 season.

The 53-year-old enjoyed a stellar playing career spanning 16 years, captaining Surrey to nine trophies, leading England in ODI cricket, and being named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2003.

Whilst at training this week, players were asking about the challenges of using many coaches, some parents are very keen for their daughters to peak early, i.e. play first grade in Sydney asap, pressure to make CNSW teams... As we work together to support the growth and development of our young cricketers, I wanted to address an important consideration regarding the use of multiple coaches.

While it’s natural to seek the best possible guidance for your child, having too many coaches can sometimes present challenges.

Different coaches may have varying philosophies and techniques. This can sometimes lead to conflicting advice, which might confuse young players rather than help them develop a clear and consistent approach.

It’s essential for young cricketers to develop their own style and instincts. While learning from various coaches can be beneficial, too much input can hinder the natural development of their unique skills.

A coach’s role goes beyond teaching skills, it’s also about mentorship and building a trusting relationship. Focusing on one or two coaches allows for a deeper connection, enabling the coach to understand your child’s strengths, areas for improvement, and personality better.

Below is State and International players, as coaches we encourage a balanced approach.

A couple of weeks ago marked a significant milestone for Cricket Mentoring as we stepped onto the field for our first ever competitive matches.

In early May, I got a message from the father of a boy from Sydney who had been affected by a fraudulent cricket tour operator. The father was desperate to get some cricket for the boys whose upcoming tournament had been cancelled leaving them devastated.

7 weeks and a lot of work later, we were competing in Northern Territory Cricket's Junior Strike League tournament in Darwin.

The off season is a great time for cricket players to work on their game technique, correct errors and build on strengths without the pressure of competition.

During the upcoming July school holidays, I will be running off season cricket coaching clinics at Killara Park and North Sydney (scroll down for dates).

These coaching clinics provide young players with the expert guidance required to develop their skills, technique and game awareness, in a friendly and inclusive environment.

Myself and my expert coaches will help players hone their skills, leading to improved muscle memory, by repeating correct movements over and over, so they become automatic.

Clinics are tailored to the experience levels of each player and are open to boys and girls aged 6 - 17 years. Come for just one day, a few days or attend every clinic - the choice is yours.

Not quite the World Cup, but this is where it all begins in India 🇮🇳. Today at Siri Fort, Delhi, fifty junior cricketers are practicing in 47-degree heat, aiming to represent India and play in the IPL one day. They know that past players from the Madan Lal Cricket Academy, like Simarjeet Singh, are now playing IPL and first-class cricket.

In Australia, junior cricketers wouldn't be training in such severe heat, but the reality is these boys will soon be playing matches in similar conditions. Adapting to all weather conditions is essential for Indian and Australian coaches wishing to work in the subcontinent. The extreme heat may not be comfortable, but it's part of the journey for these aspiring cricketers and coaches. 🏏☀️

The club is delighted to announce our Captain/Coaches for season 2024/25

Josh Hartill will again lead our 1st Grade squad following a stellar 2023/24 season where he scored nearly 1000 runs, was runner-up in the Emerson Rodwell Medal, named as Captain in the CTPL team of the year as well as being a regular in the Tasmanian Second XI team.

Simon Palmer takes the reins of 2nd Grade after picking up the role mid-season last season. Simon brings a wealth of experience having been a top performer mainly in our 2nd Grade team over the last 15 years where he is on the verge of becoming our leading 2nd Grade run-scorer in with a strong season this year.

Damien West will be returning to the playing ranks and mentoring our 3rd Grade squad after leading our Junior Program the past six years. Damien has led 2nd Grade for several seasons in the past and will be hoping to continue to raise the bar set by Steve Sillifant and Jack Young in recent years who have done a fantastic job to lead the 3’s to two flags in the past three seasons.

Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Gary Whitaker has been appointed as Head Coach for the 2024/2025 season.

This is exciting news for the club as Gary brings with him a wealth of Premier Grade coaching experience and success.

Gary will be forming his Coaching Staff, Plans and Schedules over the next few weeks.

The Coaches' Association (HKHDCCA) wishes to pay tribute to its Head Coach, Rod Hokin, who has decided to stand down from the role after 14 years of wonderful volunteer service on our Executive Committee. Rod is a Cricket Australia High Performance (Level 3) accredited cricket coach and Life Member of the Coaches’ Association, who has led our team of qualified coaches superbly since our inception in 2010. He has also been an inspirational Head Coach at so many of our school holiday junior cricket clinics over the years, as well as three U/15 Boys overseas cricket tours to Sri Lanka (2015), Barbados (2017) and India (2019).

Our new Head Coach for 2024-25 onwards will be announced at our AGM on 19 June 2024 at Vikings Sports Club,

Further evidence to great coaches creating a legacy was in one of Rod Marsh’s finest students Ricky Ponting. I grew up playing against Ricky and he was, without doubt, a prodigy, head and shoulders above the next best of his age. Ricky had always been very generous with his time when we have crossed paths and often popped his head in when I was Head Coach of NSW to make observations of some of our young players.

I had two encounters with Ricky that have made me realise he could become a truly great coach and take coaching in Australia to another level.

UTS North Sydney Cricket Club is seeking applications for the position of First Grade Coach.

UTS North Sydney is one of twenty clubs within the NSW Premier Cricket men's competition, and also competes in NSW Women's Premier Cricket.

With a strong, young senior playing squad, we are looking for an inspirational and values-driven Men's First Grade Coach who will shape, develop and lead the playing group with the key aim of developing a team and squad which is challenging for First Grade Premierships in all formats within the next three years. The successful applicant will have demonstrated a successful track record of leading and developing players through embedding a high-performance culture at Premier Cricket level or equivalent. They will have proven success in creating a collaborative, supportive, inclusive and standards-driven team ethos at the appropriate level for Premier Cricket.

The role will be responsible for implementing player development plans for the First Grade and senior playing group, which develop the long-term capability of our players to compete consistently and successfully in Premier Cricket. The Men's First Grade Coach will work with the coaching team on and off the field to the highest possible standard of excellence and professionalism, enhancing the UTS North Sydney brand and reputation.
