PROFILES OF GRASSROOTS CRICKET WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS

After hosts South Africa won the inagural International Masters Cricket Over 40s World Cup, the spotlight has been thrown on the success of grassroots cricket players in the tournament, and it once again highlights the vitally important roles that grassroots level clubs and organisations make in helping to mould and nurture, new potential cricketing stars.

Here we have Abdul Aziz Temoor (second from right) and his story about his love for cricket, no matter what!

"I played primary school cricket at strand moslem , high school at Strand secondary , there were social clubs like yellow roses, broadlands, calypso, barbados & carnations ,i played for barbado's and eventually joined HHCC at the age of 14. Oh yes and pat cricket we use to learn hifs and spend hole day everyday at the school/ masjid premises.the principal at that time mr sedick fanie banned us from playing on the premises but it didnt stop us . we got 6 of the best every morning in his office haha so ya thats what i was willing to take for cricket 😆 A GOOD OLD HIDING" .

Now that's passion, committment and a love for cricket! Something Howzattt Cricket hopes to develop - a love for, and desire to play cricket. Who knows where the next cricketing star could emerge from?

Since 2011 Cricket Without Borders has been providing unbridled experiences for young women playing the game of cricket and in that time we have been very fortunate to have had some very supportive and loyal commercial partners who have greatly assisted in retaining costs at a manageable level for all of our participant players.

We are now planning for our next tour (our tenth!) to Malaysia in July this year and we are seeking a new major partner(s) to join with supporting partners Woomargama Station, Hoyle Da Silva Lawyers,Upali's Melbourne, Spark Grips and Top Caps to help keep costs down for our players.

We have a number of assets where we can provide exposure for your brand and would welcome the opportunity for a discussion with any business that might like to become involved in assisting a small not for profit sporting organisation that continues to provide opportunities for young women who not only love the game of cricket but who also make valuable contributions to the communities we visit on our tours.

Please feel free to message us if you would like a further discussion or information.

This one is a keeper.

The Chappell Foundation is delighted to announce that Adam Gilchrist will be guest speaker at the celebrated and highly anticipated Chappell Foundation Annual Dinner on May 15 at the SCG.

Adam needs neither introduction nor explanation, he was a wicket keeper with such explosive batting skills that he set the template for what teams expect from their glovemen ever since.

A great man, a great of the game and a great storyteller.

Andrew Sincock’s role as head of the AIS Cricket Academy in the early 1990s saw him oversee revolutionary changes in coaching and professionalism

Andrew Sincock was aged 15 and about to start Year 11 at King's College (now Pembroke School) when he first opened the bowling for Kensington in Adelaide grade cricket, where his maiden wickets were future Test opener Ashley Woodcock and Australia captain-in-waiting Ian Chappell.

Twenty five years later, Sincock took over as head coach at the Australian Institute of Sport Cricket Academy tutoring a cohort that included Justin Langer, Damien Martyn, Greg Blewett and Shane Warne where he pioneered advances in training and technology that continue to shape cricket today.

Stumps - summary of St George District Cricket Club for Round 16 of the 2023-24 NSW Premier Cricket season

St George 3/290 (M Rodgers 96, K Patterson 64no, B Macdonald 56, N Stapleton 41no, E Pollock 32) Defeated Hawkesbury 6 (dec) 288 (R Macmillan 3/104, L Bartier 2/44, J Moors 1/59)

After the previous loss, the team were keen for a solid effort leading into the finals. We welcomed back Raf Macmillan and Blake Macdonald but were resting Jonathan Craig-Dobson and of course Blake Nikitaras was in the NSW Team. We definitely were going into this game a little down on fire power but having 3 spinners certainly was an asset on what was a real road of a pitch.

Congratulations to Manly Warringah District Cricket for winning the Club Championship in both the Men’s and Women’s NSW Premier Cricket 2023-24 season. A terrific effort by all involved on and off the field.

To win the men’s club championship by 232 is quite incredible.

The points awarded for the Club Championships are a multiple of the points gained from each game in all 5 grades plus the Poidevin Gray and Green Shield games.

First Grade – the points from each game multiplied by 6.
Second Grade – multiplied by 5.
Third Grade – multiplied by 4.
Fouth Grade – multiplied by 3.
Fifth Grade – multiplied by 2.
Poidevin Gray – multiplied by 4.
Green Shield – multiplied by 2.

As you can see the higher grades receive more points, so I wanted to dig a little deeper to establish how dominate Manly have been across the 5 grades in the preliminary rounds of the 2023-24.

In the 5 Grades, not including the First Grade T20, Poidevin Gray and Green Shield competitions, Manly have played 79 games and won 60 with a winning percentage of 75.9%.

The next best is St George District Cricket club winning 54 games with a winning percentage of 68.3%.

Here are the number of wins for each club in 2023-24 in the 5 grades in Men’s NSW Premier Cricket

Manly – 60
St George – 54
Parramatta 52
NDs - 50
Wests - 47
Sydney Uni - 46
Easts - 44
Gordon - 42
Bankstown- 42
North Sydney - 38
Sutherland- 34
Penrith - 31
UNSW - 28
Campbelltown- 27
Sydney - 26
Fairfield - 25
Randwick Petersham - 25
Mosman - 25
Blacktown- 21
Hawkesbury- 14

It’s worth noting Manly won the Green Shield Premiership and finished on top of Pool A in the Poidevin Gray competition but lost to Randwick Petersham in the quarter final.

A mighty season by Manly, the benchmark for all to consider and reflect on.

Best wishes to all teams in the 5 grades who have made the semi-finals. Semi-finals and finals cricket is so much more fun, so enjoy and embrace the challenge and opportunities.

FINDING NEW STARS!

Howzattt caught up with some extremely enthusiastic young cricket players/fans from the JP21 Foundation who are watchig the final of the International Masters Cricket Over 40s World Cup today between South Africa and New Zealand. They were all thrilled to get their Howzattt - A Beginner's Guide to the Game of Cricket from us, and were soon busy collecting autographs from the South African team.

Named for the well-known South African all rounder cricketer, J.P. Duminy, who saw a need to bring cricket to the underpriviliged communities and schools of the Western Cape, and give them hope of fulfilling their dreams.
According their mantra online () "the JP21 Foundation is based on a sincere commitment to reigniting the passion and enthusiasm for the game of cricket in underprivileged communities and schools, particularly in the Western Cape areas of Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein. Our long-term objectives are to promote a positive and healthy lifestyle and allowing learners to have fun at the same time, all while playing cricket".

Howzattt is so pleased to have been able to play a part in inspiring the children from this amazing foundation. Our mission is the same as the foundation- bring cricket to as many as possible, and find new stars, wherever we can!

We hope to be able to partner with them in future projects as well, and we urge companies and sponsors to help make their dreams come true.

St George DCC Annual Charity Walk for Medical Research A Tribute to Warren Saunders OAM

On Saturday 2 March 2024 St George District Cricket Club will conduct its Annual Charity Walk to help raise awareness and much needed funds for the St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation. This is the 11th year the Club has chosen SSMRF as their Charity Partner and I will again lead the Walk. This is your Club’s way of giving back to our local community while also supporting a very worthwhile organisation.

The Annual Walk will now also serve as a tribute to our former Patron, Warren Saunders OAM, who sadly passed away on 1 March 2023, almost a year to the day of this year’s Walk. Warren was a wonderful supporter of so many local organisations and always a generous contributor to this Annual SSMRF fundraiser.

Please consider making a donation to the St George DCC Charity Walk as we raise funds to support medical research projects in our local St George and Sutherland Hospitals.
