The Newcastle Cricket Zone are pleased to announce the Open Men's team.
This year sees a few changes to the program, with the Plan B Regional Bash being played in Tamworth on the 16th November and pool winners playing the final before a BBL match later in the season.
Newcastle will then seek to defend their title from last year competing in the McDonald s Country Championships in Tamworth from the 17th to 19th November.

Randwick Petersham won its 5th 1st Grade Twenty20 premiership at Coogee Oval when it defeated a brave Gordon side in the Grand Final of the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup, 4-155 (18.4 overs) to 8-152 (20 overs). And while the match was played in cloudy and gloomy conditions after parts of Sydney had been deluged by up to 75mm of rain overnight, the game produced all the excitement and tension that a T20 Grand Final can do.

Batting first after winning the toss, it was high drama when Daniel Sams clean bowled the Stags skipper, Tym Crawford, with the very first ball. But it was almost 10 overs later before the hosts could claim a second wicket when Jason Ralston bowled Axel Cahlin (38 off 27 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes) for a 2-66 scoreline. Trystan Kennedy (28 off 33) went 7 runs later although a 56 runs partnership which followed, put Gordon’s nose in front.

Week 7 – ‘The Opening Spell’

Rain, rain go away! A wet weather affected weekend of McDonald’s NSW Premier Cricket couldn’t stop the bowlers from showing up.

First ball – Big Bash meets little bash!

Colloquially referred to as the ‘little bash’, NSW Premier Cricket’s Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup came to a spectacular conclusion at Coogee Oval over the weekend. Randwick Petersham chased Gordon’s total of 8/152 with eight balls to spare, thanks to a crisp display of hitting from Sydney Thunder’s Daniel Sams (42 from 30) and Alex Ross (43 from 33), as well as Brisbane Heat’s Jack Wood (25 from 19). The Randy Pete's trio plundered six 4s and seven 6s between them, to secure the trophy for a record fifth time.

All-rounder Moises Henriques will play his 100th Sheffield Shield match when he leads the NSW Men’s Team against Western Australia at the SCG in the fixture that begins on Monday.

Selectors have named a 13-player Blues squad that includes three additions to the 11 that went down to Victoria at the MCG in their last Shield match. One player will drop out of the squad later today.

Fast bowler Liam Hatcher, all-rounder Hayden Kerr and powerful batter Ollie Davies come in for Ben Dwarshuis and Jack Edwards. Chris Green was 12th man for the Melbourne fixture and is again in the squad for this clash. Edwards was not considered for selection as he manages minor niggles.

UTS North Sydney Cricket Club - September, October 2023 - Month 1 wrap

First Grade opened with a new-look T20 competition that brought a few new faces to the North Sydney First Grade squad, with 3 debuts. Everett Oxenham, Addison Sherriff and Hugh Sherriff became players 690, 691 and 692, respectively, for the club. Everett and Addison's debuts were also their first games in First Grade.

In a strange quirk to the new format, our first match, against last year's finalists, Sydney Uni, was played at Bensons Lane in Hawkesbury. After winning the toss and batting first, we only managed to post 7-119 off our 20 overs, with contributions from JA (Justin Avendano), Mac Jenkins and Maresy (Dylan Mares)to help us to the total. With a modest total on the board, we would need to be inch-perfect with the ball and almost were, with Sydney Uni passing our total 8 down with just 3 balls to spare. Debutant Everett was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-26 off his 4. Fellow spinner Mac was also miserly, taking 2-23 off his 4.

A 12-player NSW Men’s Team has been named for their Marsh One-Day Cup clash with Western Australia at Cricket Central in Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday.

Off spinner Nathan Lyon, pace bowler Liam Hatcher and Kurtis Patterson drop out of the team that defeated South Australia in Adelaide on October 20, with their places taken by Hayden Kerr, Jack Nisbet and Blake Macdonald.

Kerr is returning from an injury suffered in NSW’s Sheffield Shield opener, Nisbet will play his second One-Day Cup match of the season, while Macdonald is set to make his one-day debut for the Blues.

We celebrate a significant umpiring milestone on November 4 and 11 with Troy Penman being appointed to stand in his 100th first grade match in NSW Men’s Premier Cricket. Troy becomes the 57th umpire to do so in the 110-year history of New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association.

Troy commenced umpiring in season 2012-13, starting with a fourth grade match at Killara Oval between Gordon and Bankstown. He made his first grade debut in season 2014-15 in the fixture between Northern District and Blacktown with Anthony Hobson at Mark Taylor Oval. His record of on field service to the Sydney Cricket Association currently reads:

Five things we learned from Round 4 - NSW Premier Cricket 2023-24

Tim Cummins isn’t keeping wicket for Sydney University just now, while he recovers from recent eye surgery. He’s still seeing the ball well enough, though, as he’s made his best start to the season with the bat for a few years. University lost two very early wickets against Fairfield, but a bright stand between Damien Mortimer and Ryan McElduff had steadied the innings. Cummins went to the crease when Mortimer, who made a fluent 49, nicked the first ball of the second session. Cummins was quickly in stride, driving Jaydyn Simmons past cover for 4, then using his feet well to attack left-arm spinner Cameron Frendo. Frendo, an Australian Under-19 representative, is certainly a promising talent, but at the moment his length is a touch mechanical, and Cummins went deep into his crease to cut and pull deliveries that were barely fractionally short.

With the ACT’s return to the Toyota National 2nd XI competition a little over a week away, Premier Cricket performances are becoming important not just for weight of numbers, but for their timing as well.

Weston Creek Molonglo top order bat Zak Keogh’s star continues to rise, with a well-made 123-ball innings of 109 against Tuggeranong at Stirling notable for the comfort with which he reached three figures.

Keogh batted superbly through the second session to bring up his first century of the summer and pushed the ‘Creek to 254 where they were bowled out in the 59th over. Daniel Oshyer was the chief destroyer with 5-39 from 15 overs for Tuggeranong, who finished the day 3-91 from 37 overs.

At ANU North, WA import and promising allrounder Lachie Simpson posted his first ton in Canberra, finishing unbeaten on 159 and helping the Students reach 289 against Queanbeyan.

Andrew Rochford announces immediate retirement

Back-to-back Premiership winning captain Andrew Rochford has announced his immediate playing retirement.

He will also be stepping down from his role on the Board.

Andrew has been a colossus for the club since coming back to the playing field 5 years ago after an almost 20 year hiatus.

His leadership on the field has been second to none. He always drove his teams to be the best that they could be, resulting in M4s winning back-to-back titles for the first time in any grade in our clubs history.

He will be sorely missed.

First ball – Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup | Finals form

Randwick Petersham qualified for the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup grand final after defeating Fairfield-Liverpool by 54 runs at Coogee Oval yesterday. Randy Pete’s hard hitting Jake Egan despatched the Lions’ bowling attack to all parts of the ground, finishing with a quick-fire 61* (not out) from 28 deliveries, just one day after tallying 94 runs (149 balls) against Western Suburbs in their round 4 Belvidere Cup clash.

Claire Polosak will become the 87th member of New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association to umpire a men’s first-class match when she walks onto the WACA Ground to officiate the round 5 Sheffield Shield fixture between Western Australia and South Australia starting November 15. Claire will be partnered on field by Sam Nogajski, David Gilbert will be the match referee.

Claire joined NSWCUSA in 2005 and was upgraded to principal member in 2021, recognising her outstanding service to the Association and to cricket umpiring in New South Wales. Claire was elevated to the Cricket Australia Supplementary Umpire Panel in 2014-15, remaining a member of this panel today. She is also a member of the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires.

Marc Nickl will umpire his 200th Men’s Premier Cricket first grade match on November 4 and 11, standing in the fixture at Rosedale Oval between Fairfield-Liverpool and Sutherland.

This is an outstanding umpiring milestone. Marc becomes just the 12th umpire in our 110-year history to stand in 200 first grade matches. He will share the match with good friend and umpiring colleague Darren Foster.

Marc has a rich history in cricket umpiring, with many highlights during his time as a match official since joining the NSWCUSA in 2005, having previously played Grade cricket with the Fairfield-Liverpool club (1994-2005):
