Ian Wright has been scorer for Sydney Cricket Club in NSW Premier Cricket for 15 season and he is highly respected by all at our club and in the wider cricket community.

He has been selected as scorer for Test matches, WBBL/BBL, ODI’s and T20’s. Ian is Australian Test Scorer No. 113.

Recently Ian was awarded Life membership of the NSWCUSA.

The AW Green Shield is named for a President of Western Suburbs, "Abbie" Green. Apart from cricket, Green's abiding interest was Barnado's Homes, the orphanage charity, so a cricket competition for boys under the age of 16 is an apt memorial to him. Originally, the competition had been played for a trophy known as the "Cush Herford Shield", but after Green's death, the trophy was named for him.

The Green Shield competition has always been both an obligation and an opportunity. It is part of the way in which a Grade club fulfils its obligation to develop junior cricket in the district it represents - but it is also a precious opportunity to attract gifted young players as recruits. Since 1935, most of Wests' outstanding homegrown players have emerged through the Green Shield team.

Flying into Kingsford Smith Airport for some people can be somewhat daunting. We have a St George cricketer to thank for the well laid out runways. With knowledge of aeronautics, our cricketer has ensured that over the past eighty years planes have landed on the north south or the east west runway correctly. This was due to the location of the runways, consideration of possible varying climatic conditions and their construction. The design, and responsibility was that of the former St George cricketer, Harold Fraser.

That same name is also familiar to those cricketers in Sydney who have played at Harold Fraser Oval, Carss Park. It was named in honour of the service provided by Fraser to the St George community on 25th August 1979.

Petersham Park was proclaimed as a public park in 1887. It was originally located on land owned by William Charles Wentworth the famous Australian explorer, poet, journalist and politician. A creek flowed through the property while it was also used as a dairy farm in its early days.

In 1892 the ground was levelled and a sporting oval was laid out. A rotunda was erected in 1902 next to the oval and remains to the present day to the delight of the many brides who visit for photographs.

The next time you hear a Newcastle district cricketer whinge about traveling over the Stockton Bridge or down to Toronto for an away game, mention Ian Redpath.

The Stockton & Northern Districts batsman was without a doubt the most committed cricketer in town in the 2012-13.

During the 2012-13 pre-season, Redpath emailed every club in Newcastle requesting a chance to play.

Six replied, and because he had relatives in Stockton and an offer from the club to provide accommodation if required, Redpath chose the Seagulls.

Luke Hoogendyk is a promising up-and-coming wicketkeeper-batsman for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club.

Last season, Luke took 35 dismissals for the club, consisting of 23 catches, 6 stumpings and 6 runouts.

He also scored his maiden grade fifty for the club, with a match winning-knock of 52 not out against Sydney University in Round 5, and was also a part of the Western Suburbs AW Green Shield side, which made the quarterfinals.

Certainly not a spectacular journey. I played all my juniors in ACT for North Canberra | Gungahlin. Played a couple of 4th and 5th grade games as a 17yo. Then had a summer off and then went on to play 4 seasons of City & Suburban with some friends. Started at Belmont when I was 23yo summer of 9/10.

Tahs members from Armidale, the original home of Waratahs Cricket Club from 1950-2006, met for lunch and fair splattering of what they could remember of how good they were.

Pictured from left are Mike Porter, former Easts stalwart and the main reason cricket still has breath in the Northern Tablelands town; Tahs Secretary Peter Langston from Tamworth, just a hundred clicks south on the New England Highway; Graham Frost, champion from Waratahs sides of the late 70’s and early 80’s; and the newest member of the Tahs, Garry Holloway, who has become the new club’s low marker, as the holder of the lowest membership number of the old Waratahs having first played nearly sixty years ago in his early teens.

Tom Pinson joined Sutherland from Yass in 2012, a young pace bowler aiming to see how far he could go in the game. As at the end of the 2023-24 season, he has played 219 matches in all grades for Sutherland, taking 308 wickets. In First Grade, has taken 212 wickets in 151 matches and was a member of the 1st Grade T20 premiership team in 2017-18. He played for ACT & NSW Country in the Toyota Futures League in 2017-18 & 2018-19 and in the Toyota Second XI League in 2019-20. Here he tells us a bit more about his career to date:

I've been fortunate enough to call Nicko a close mate since we first travelled to the UK on the Antipodean's tour of '91 as 16-year-olds. Both a teammate in the early days at Gordon and watching his development, to then becoming fierce competitors on the first class cricket scene, you won't find a better bloke who deserves such a standing alongside the greats at Gordon DCC. As a player, in particular his fast bowling was world class, and you always knew you were in the fight of your life to get through his tough spells.

Mr W E Forsyth, the Hon Secretary of the Petersham C.C., while playing with the Veteran team against Cintra C.C. at Norwood Park on Saturday, bowled the whole ten wickets in the course of 55 balls at a cost of only 15 runs. While not a unique performance, it is a very remarkable one in the fact of the wicket being hit in each instance. In one sense, however, there is no doubt that the feat is unique as Mr Forsyth has only one hand, his right arm ending above the wrist.

Nick Taranto played his junior cricket for Tyabb Cricket Club in the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association.

Nick graduated into the seniors as an early teenager and is the club first grade player number 479. As a teenager he moved to Frankston Peninsula to play Victoria Premier Cricket.

After a couple of seasons in Premier Cricket Nick returned to Tyabb CC where he has scored 9 centuries to date. Nick returned to Frankston Peninsula in Premier Cricket and on the 29 January 2022 he made his first grade premier cricket debut scoring 11 against Essendon.

During the West Indies tour of Australia in 1975-76, arrangements were made for Andy Roberts to return the following season to play Sheffield Shield for NSW and 1st Grade for Sutherland. Andy made his 1st Grade debut on 9 October 1976 against Manly Warringah at Caringbah Oval. Unfortunately rain intervened and, after a late start, only 13 minutes of play was possible before play was washed out, with Sutherland bowling only two overs. Andy bowled a maiden! There was no play on day two due to rain.

Ian Davis is a proud former Balmain Cricket Club player who enjoyed his time playing for the Tigers during the 1980s.

He made his first grade debut in Sydney Grade Cricket with Northern District at the age of 16 and played grade cricket for Northern District, Gordon, Bankstown, Penrith, Balmain and Campbelltown. Davis captained Penrith to their first grade premiership in 1982-83

Davis played 15 Test matches scoring 692 runs at an average of 26.61 with one century and 4 half centuries.

Two Randy Petes faced off in the match with Adam Semple representing NSW and Burt Cockley WA and Randy Petes Legend Bobby Barter as Room Attendant extraordinaire.

For Sempie the 2012-13 season was marked by his appointment as First Grade skipper and in his first match at the helm had a convincing win in the State Challenge Shield, with an inexperienced side after losing four first-class players from the previous season, over the country champions Illawarra at Kensington Oval. Adam went on to lead his young charges to wins in the first three matches bolstered by his own selection in the NSW Second XI team where he hit scores of 103* (on debut v WA), 73* and 56*. Burt had just made the shift to WA to continue his First Class career with the Warriors.

The creation of a St George DCC Hall of Fame at the Norm O’Neill Indoor Facility has been, as expected, an unbridled success, with inductees honoured and often emotional at their inclusion. It also reinforces St George’s status as a leading producer of outstanding Premier, State and International cricketers. Additionally, if is a constant reminder to young players training at the Norm O’Neill Centre of the skill and talent of their local predecessors, hopefully instilling in them an increased desire to train hard and succeed.

I race over to our scorer and immediately inquire "Who is this kid?". The nearby Penrith scorer obliges and says "That's Patrick Cummins. He's quick isn't he". That was a statement of the obvious.

The second ball thunders into Lee Kirk's pad. Lee had barely time to raise his bat and must have been perilously close to be given out. But he survives. Much to the annoyance of the fielding side from whom he cops a bit of a spray. But Patrick doesn't say a word of dissent. Just goes about his business. Bowling fast.
