ON THIS DAY - 25th October
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | October 25, 2025

In 1958, TONY MORRISS (#78) aka "Long Tall Tony" did a number on TAS. After bowling unchanged with Nigel Richardson (#103), who took 5-17, as the school boys collapsed for 26 on the first day, he raced through them again on the second day, finishing the match with 11-34 (5-5 & 6-29). Morriss and Richardson shared 18 of the 20 TAS wickets in an outright win by an innings. It was the first time a B grade player had taken ten or more wickets in a match, a feat he would repeat only six weeks later!

In 1986, GRAHAM FROST (#333 - pictured) made 113 for 1st grade v Uralla at Harris Park. Opening and batting through until being the eight man out at 244, Frosty was the backbone of an innings. After adding 53 with opening partner James Campbell (#382), he also added 66 with Graham Johnson (#206) and steered the others to a total of 269 which proved to be too much for Uralla.

2nd grade went on a run rampage against Uralla at the smaller Harris Park 2 ground. After a steady first session and a start of 2-90, with opener Bob Barwick (#234) making 44, the afternoon was dominated by MATT CAMPBELL (#363) and DAVID LAWRENCE (#455) who added 238 for the 3rd wicket, both of them making their only hundreds for Waratahs. Its hard to believe, but despite being the fifth highest partnership in any grade for Waratahs, its not even a grade record. At tea, the pair had added an even hundred, but after tea, Waratahs took their score from 2-190 to a grade record 7-491. Skipper Peter Langston (#357) set the accelerated tone, coming in after Laurence and making a 24 ball 57 in a four over partnership of 76 with Campbell. Rolling Uralla twice on the second day, with David Tilbury (#302) and Steve Reading (#322) taking 13 wickets between them, 2nds recorded their largest ever victory, by an innings and 181 runs.
