ON THIS DAY - 11th November
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | November 11, 2025

In 1961, D LANG (#138) and PETER MORSE (#19) added 167 for the 4th wicket as 1st grade chased down and then batted on against a strong University side. University posted a competitive total on the first day, hampered only by Terry Mackenzie (#54) taking 5-71 and Morse making 4 dismissals behind the stumps. Waratahs started the second day badly, being 2-4 in the second over and then 3-53 until Lang with 102 and Morse with 92 combined to take them to what became a comfortable win.
Waratahs v University - A grade, 4th & 11th November, 1961
In 1989, STEVE READING (#322), in one of those mercurial afternoons of cricket he had a habit of mustering, took 11-40 on the second day for 3rd grade v Uralla. After rain interuptions on the first day and during the intervening week, Waratahs batted on at the start of the second day, declaring after handy contributions throughout the order and an unbeaten Ian Campbell (#212) half century batting at seven. Twenty overs were all that were needed to dismiss Uralla by tea, with Klink bowling unchanged and taking 5-31. Upset that his skipper wished to enforce the follow on, with it still being wet underfoot and with what he believed was the job done, The Colonel came out in what can only be described as "one of his moods". His 8-2-9-6, in little more time than the first innings, included five bowled - to go with five victims the same way in the first innings - a fact as least as attributable to the quality of the opposition as the temperment of the bowler. In Uralla's two innings, only three batsmen reached double figures. The final result, an outight by an innings and 116 runs, was the biggest 3rd grade victory eveer achieved.
