ON THIS DAY - 17th November
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | November 18, 2025

In 1962, two century partnerships pushed A grade well beyond 300 and set up the largest win by Waratahs in A/1st grade. Batting on the first day against the second University side, ALAN GRAY (26) and ALLAN COX (#160) put on a 111 opening stand. When Cornelius removed both of them and John Failes (#107) not long after, D LANG (#138) and ALLAN CASH (#150) then enjoyed the rest of the afternoon, adding 197 for the 4th wicket. Both made their highest scores for Waratahs: Lang 128 and Cash 75 not out. University collapsed twice on the second day.

In 1979, RENE MULLEN (#321), who is usually noted for his bowling, held three catches off Roger Sattler (#378) who took a career best 6-20 as YCW collapsed at Harris Park for just 35 against A grade. Waratahs fared little better, picking up first innings point by just the one wicket after Brian Joice (#218) hit the winning run by sending a six two third of the way up the hill at Harris Park. Neither side did much better second time around.
