Matt Farrant: My Greatest BWCUCC XI

Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club | June 30, 2025

Matt Farrant is a club legend at Burnside West Christchurch University CC. The fast bowler played 201 games for the club before assisting Head Coach Carl Huyser through the club's most successful period. 'Faz' played with numerous national representatives while leading Burnside's attack, but he will be dominantly remembered for his formidable new ball partnership that stretched over a decade with Scott Inglis.

Below is the one-club man's best BWCUCC XI.

1- Tom Latham: Previous captain of the club at a very young age and has built an amazing career opening the batting.

2- George Worker: Great attacking left hand bat and the best part is providing left arm spin option which was often very successful at club level in particular.

3- Will Young: Lucky to have Will at the club while he was studying and always looked a class above.

4- Scott Janett: Not only an incredibly talented batsman but one of the best fielders I’ve played with and coached. Maturity

beyond his years.

5-  Mitch Hay: Damaging batsman could take the game away from opposition teams very quickly, can field in this team and is such an athlete he can easily handle it.

6-  Matt Hay: Amazing record at club level, destructive with both bat and ball, should’ve played a lot more higher up.

Mitch Hay, local junior and BlackCaps wicket-keeper plays as a specialist batsman in this side.

7- Sam Noster: One of the more aesthetically pleasing batsman to watch and provides another great seam bowling option to complement the quicks.

8-  Kruger Van Wyk (c & wk): Always lead by example and brought professionalism to the club when it needed it the most. True leader in every sense. Fantastic behind the stumps.

9- Scott Inglis: Amazing longevity for an opening bowler and he just got better with age. Nasty in-swingers to face in the nets and was always glad he was on my team.

Jackson Latham always stands up in big games; has two man of the match medals in Grand Finals.

10-  Jackson Latham: Someone who will run in for you all day and bowls a heavy ball. Always stood up in the big games.

Will O'Rourke, one of the best fast bowlers on the planet currently.

11- Will O’Rourke: Someone who you knew was always destined for higher things and just enjoyed having him in the team for as long as you could.

From left: Steve Murdoch, Carl Huyser, Matt Hay and Scott Inglis.

Coaches: Carl Huyser and Stephen Murdoch – Lead the club through its most successful period and both could easily be in the XI themselves. Wealth of knowledge and experience between the pair of them.
