Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club Morning Grades Statistical Team of the Year
Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club | July 29, 2025

The morning grade sides at BWCUCC had an incredible successful season. The Premiers & Championship sides won the 2-Day & T20 titles & the Div 2 Lions lifted their first One Day title.
Here is a morning grades 2024/2025 team of the season, purely off statistics.
1) Nick Gibb (Prems/Champs)
With over 1000 runs across the formats Nick was the leading run scorer in morning grades. 130* in the Boock Sharp clash against St Albans was his highlight, was well as a dominant championship T20 campaign where he amassed over 500 runs in 8 bats including the clubs first T20 hundred at that level.
Nick Gibb.
2) Fergus McIntosh (Lions)
The butcher by trade took his tools to the opposition last summer. Scoring 729 runs at 80 strike rate across the three formats. His consistency at the top of the order with five half centuries put the Lions in great positions to win games, including their maiden 50 over title. He also took 32 wickets at 14.66.
3) Will Kennedy (Champs)
Super consistent at the top of the order for the Championship side for a number of years now. Will scored 631 runs at 30 average, and was a key part of both championship titles. In tough conditions at times during the season Will finds a way to mix attack and defence to be successful.
4) Matt Hay (Prems)
The four-time reining Al Brown club MVP backed it up again this summer. Scoring 745 runs and taking 49 wickets he led his side from the front.
5) Oscar Jackson (Prems)
The University of Canterbury student makes his mark on opposition attacks during semester time. Oscar Scored nearly 500 runs in the red ball competion to see his name etched on the honours board, the first to do so in a decade. His 143* vs Riccarton & his 139 run partnership in 9 overs with Captain Hay most memorable.
Oscar Jackson.
6) Adam Winter (Prems)
The milkman, Adam is responsible for the rising cost of butter in his day job and his stocks continued to rise at Burnside Park this summer. After a slow start to the summer mixing golf, Coldplay & injuries into the above Adam came into his own with consistent performances. 28 wickets and 326 runs a real key role in the middle of the Premier line up. His 82* in the 50 over semi final took the side from a meek 110-8 to 232 and a score which was easily defendable.
7) Thomas Bird (Champs)
Only 7 appearances since finishing his schooling at St Thomas’s but Thomas made his impact felt in the championship middle order. A handy gloveman as well, Thomas will take the gloves in this side. Thomas started men’s cricket with a bang, scoring a 100 in the championship semifinal to propel the team to a competitive score.
8) Alex Tait (Prems)
Alex has been a large part of the Premier side’s success in recent years. His skills with both red and white ball saw him take 51 wickets. His 2-Day figures against East Shirley will be remembered for a long time, 22 overs 8-12. He also has the ability to score critical runs at the back end of innings.
9) Chandula Kodippiliarachichi (Lions)
The longest name in the club, ‘Duly’ caused pain for scores and opposition batsman alike. 34 wickets at 11.38 with a best bowling performance of 7/26. A strong breakthrough season for Chandula who has recently joined the club from neighbours Riccarton.
Chandula Kodippiliarachichi.
10) Alex McDuff (Champs)
The Championship stalwart once again led the way with the new ball, taking 49 wickets. He led the way in their successful 2-Day championship win. He will be filthy batting this low in the line up after scoring a 100 in the penultimate game of the summer.
11) Jackson Latham (Prems)
With 52 wickets across all three formats ‘JL’ was the leading wicket taker for morning grade cricketers at BWC. Highlighted by his man of the match performance in the T20 Final, Jackson led the way with the new ball all season mixing his experience & skill with genuine pace.
