The Preview: BWCUCC Division Four Tigers

Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club | August 25, 2025

With six weeks left until first ball in the 2025/2026 cricket season, we will speak to each of our captains and preview their season ahead. We start firstly with our division 4 Tigers captain Jono Collins.

Last season was a good one for the Tigers, finishing 3rd on the ladder. They were led by a strong bowling attack, with five bowlers averaging under 15 with the ball! John Cowley took 23 wickets at 9.22 leading the way. Batting wise Ben Mcgarvey and Kobe Stackhouse led the run scoring charts, with Ben being the 4th highest scorer in the grade.

Jono, a decent season for your side last summer finishing 3rd , what are you most looking forward to this season?

We will be bolstered by the return of a couple of players who were absent last season. This will add some real depth to our squad and hopefully turn some of our close loses into wins.

What did the Tigers take away from last season that will help this time around?

We had a huge improvement on results last season. This was basically down to us relying less on certain individuals to perform & more team efforts. Hopefully this gives our team individually and collectively more confidence in our ability going forward.

What do you think the team’s biggest strength will be this season?

Our bowling attack is a real strength of ours. We have lots of different options which provide variety and strike power so am looking forward to letting them loose in October!

Any players we should keep an eye on who might surprise a few people?

Our player to watch this summer is Clayton Cowley. He has had a couple of quiet seasons with the bat but has been working hard on his game over the winter, with a clear focus on his patience. If he can find his grove with the bat, he will be one of the leading all rounders in the grade.

As captain, what are the main goals you’ve set for the group this year?

We are keen on gaining promotion into division 3. We finished 3rd last season so we know we can compete and are one of the strongest teams in the grade, so we are looking to take the next step and win competitions. With additions to our squad and hunger to improve we are confident that we can take the next step as a team.
