John Biviano inducted as a Legend of Sydney Shires Cricket

It is with great pride and pleasure to announce that on Friday 9 May 2025, our very own John ‘Biv’ Biviano was inducted as a Legend of Shires Cricket. This is a prestigious award for contributions to the Sydney Shires Cricket Competition and Biv is now a full deserving member of this group. John joins fellow Roseville cricketers Mal Grant, Basil Fulford and Dave Cooley to be recognised with this magnificent award. Truly a special club!

In memory of our fallen heroes and those many members of the founding clubs of Randwick Petersham who served their country in World War I, a wreath was laid at the Coogee Dawn Service on Anzac Day, 25 April 2025. It was warming to note that the club’s tribute was captured by the Channel 9 news that evening, as the picture above displays.

Phil Everitt - New Life Member Inducted into Nelson Bay Cricket Club

It is with immense pride that Nelson Bay Cricket Club (NBCC) announces our newest Life Member, an honour reserved for those who have demonstrated exceptional and sustained service to the club. This prestigious recognition is not given lightly, and we are thrilled to name Phil Everitt as our latest Life Member.

Here’s a snapshot of Phil’s remarkable contributions to NBCC:

- Junior Cricket Beginnings: Phil started his journey with Nelson Bay Cricket in the 1984/85 season, playing all his junior cricket with the club.
- Senior Cricket: In the 2019/20 season, Phil joined the senior ranks to play alongside his son, Jack, and continues to do so.
- Junior Committee Involvement: Since 2010, Phil has been a vital part of the Junior Committee, serving as Junior Registrar on the Executive Committee from 2012 to 2017.
- Infrastructure Contributions: Phil played a key role in critical facility upgrades, including the Salamander nets, the construction of Korora Nets, the centre wicket, and the recent purchase of the state-of-the-art Menta Roller at Don Waring Oval.
- Junior Statistics and Awards: For the past 12 years, Phil has meticulously compiled statistics for all junior players and prepared trophies for the Junior Presentation Night.
- Sponsorship: Through his company, Portside Electrical Services, Phil has been a dedicated sponsor of the Junior Club for 15 years.
- Coaching and Mentorship: Phil’s greatest legacy is his 18-year commitment to coaching and mentoring young Makos, starting with Milo Cricket in 2007. From Saturday morning junior teams to supporting the senior squad on Saturday afternoons, Phil has been a constant source of encouragement, enthusiasm, and guidance, shaping the lives of countless young players.

Phil Everitt’s dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment have left an indelible mark on NBCC.

Congratulations, Phil, on this well-deserved honour!

The Board of New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association annually appoints a sub-committee to consider nominations for the NSWCUSA Hall of Fame. The sub-committee then makes a recommendation to the Board.

In 2025 the Hall of Fame sub-committee was unanimous that life member Kevin Pye be inducted. The Board was unanimous in its support of the sub-committee recommendation.

Earlier this year work was completed on the new upgrades to Barton Fields featuring new amenities and fields featuring a new turf square and baseball diamond.

This is the first of a multi-stage process where all the fields in the complex will be upgraded in what is the beginning of a very exciting era of Cricket, Football and Baseball in the Belmont and wider Lake Macquarie area.

Decorated former NSW Men’s Team captain Moises Henriques has announced his retirement from first class cricket after 110 matches for the Blues.

Born in Portugal, Henriques made his Sheffield Shield debut in October 2006 against South Australia and made his final Shield appearance as captain against Queensland in a drawn match last November. NSW won the Shield three times during his period in the squad.

St. George-Sutherland WCC win their first 1st Grade Premiership

Winning the toss and batting, the Slayers made 9/197 off their 50 overs, with Lucy Finn making 72 (104 balls) and Tahlia Wilson capping a fine season at representative & club levels with 52 (69 balls). They then dismissed Campbelltown-Camden for 172 off 45.1 overs, after they were 3/101 off 18.4 overs with two batters well set. The Slayers took 7-71 off 26.3 overs of superb finals pressure cricket.

The preliminary rounds of the 2024-25 NSW Men’s Premier Cricket competition are now complete, and with finals upon us, the most thrilling part of the season begins. It’s the best type of cricket many players will play and it’s when the most cherished memories are made.

Below is a brief analysis of the 16 rounds of the Belvidere Cup—and the numbers tell a fascinating story. In particular, it’s intriguing to see how many First Grade players have scored 350+ runs or taken 20+ wickets for their teams this season.

In 1962, LAURIE BLAKE (#126) did the hat trick for A-Res grade v Hillgrove, in the course of capturing the remarkable figures of 6-2. In order to try and engineer the outright they need to qualify for the semis, Waratahs declared behind on the first innings, to no eventual avail.

In 1973, BOB BARWICK (#234) and DAVID LYNCH (#249) added 117 for the 4th wicket for A-Res grade v Easts.
In 1984, PETER LANGSTON (#357) made the highest ever score in 3rd grade, with 164 v the minor premiers, St Peters. In the process, he shared partnerships of 126 with DANNY BROWN (#404) for the 3rd wicket and 107 with ROGER HAY (#427) for the 4th. To cap the afternoon off, he was the first man out in a Steve Ross hat trick!

In 1990, it was all action, with highlights from all five grades. In 1st grade, PHIL MELVILLE (#542) took 9-14 v Uralla, the best bowling figures in that grade.

In 2nd grade, PETER EVANS (#532) scored his only Waratahs hundred, with 106 not out v Centrals. He shared a partnership of 113 with STEVE HADFIELD (#524) for the 3rd wicket, after Hadfield had added 117 for the 2nd wicket with BOB BARWICK (#234). Hadfield's 92 was his highest Waratahs score.

In 3rd grade, ROGER ROAN (#176) held 3 catches in the innings and top scored twice in Waratahs outright win v Centrals.

In 4ths, LAUIRE HAGAN (#591) also made his only hundred, 114 which set up an outright win by an innings v Uralla.

In 5ths, SUNIL REDDY (#622) and ANDREW HUGHES (#593) made a grade record partnership of 96 for the 8th wicket v Hillgrove. Hughes 47 was his highest score for Waratahs.

In 2001, (a newly recovered record), MICHAEL TRUSWELL (#800) made 101 for 3rd grade v TAS.

Jimmy Greenslade has returned from a stint in New Zealand in untouchable form. He recorded his fourth First Grade hundred in the Bears dismantling of Sutherland at North Sydney Oval. It was Greenslade's highest First Grade score to date (120).

After falling agonisingly short the week prior against Manly, NSW U19 Metro batsman, James Moore got over the line for his maiden First Grade hundred against Sutherland at North Sydney Oval.

UTS North Sydney travelled to Mosman for the first round back after the Christmas break and kicked off 2025 with a bang, skittling the Whales for 148. Jamieson Hedges and James Campbell the chief destroyers, leading the Bears to a clinical victory along with Mosman junior, Harri Lee Young's classy 68 with the bat.

This initiative aims to drive strategy and excellence in community sport outcomes through one professional administrative function that embraces the entire cricket ecosystem and leverages partners to execute ambitious outcomes for Newcastle Cricket and the community. The motion includes;

· A defined path to create an entity known as 'Newcastle Cricket Board'

Something extraordinary happened over the past two days.

This 12 years old cricketer has outdone herself yet again! After scoring an unbeaten 153* against U15 boys, Kaya has now raised the bar with an incredible 164* in the senior ladies' competition, smashing 16 fours and 4 sixes. This marks her fourth century of the season and her third 150+ score.

But that’s not all. Yesterday, in the Brewers Shield (U18 Premier/Senior cricket), Kaya delivered another decent performance, scoring 75* (not out) with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Remarkably, she may be the youngest player to achieve this milestone, scoring 50+ runs and clearing the ropes twice in a Premier/Senior cricket match.

Do these records matter? Maybe, maybe not.

One thing’s for sure... we don’t just like cricket, we absolutely love it! 💪🏏❤️

In the Round 2, 2 Day match v Eastern Suburbs on 12 & 19 Oct 2013 1st Grade won by 3 wickets at Waverley Oval.

David Warner (1st Grade cap #90) and Nathan Ellis (1st Grade cap #91) made their debuts in 1st Grade for Randwick Petersham and were presented their baggy greens by Bill Anderson (Director of Cricket) and 1st Grade skipper Adam Semple.

John McMahon Grandstand – Oakes Oval Lismore

The Lismore community gathered to celebrate the legacy of John McMahon, unveiling a grandstand in his honor at the newly refurbished Oakes Oval. A true icon of NSW country cricket, John passed away on 22 January 2024 and the age of 91 and dedicated nearly seven decades to the sport as a player, coach, and administrator. His contributions were recognized with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2008, cementing his status as a legend of the game.

Born in Sydney in 1932, John’s cricketing journey began at the age of nine. A left-arm wrist spinner, he excelled in club cricket for Balmain, took 120 wickets in Poidevin-Gray Shield, and later represented Queensland in Sheffield Shield cricket. After moving to Lismore in the 1950s, John became a cornerstone of Far North Coast cricket, earning life membership in multiple cricketing organizations and captaining representative teams against touring international sides like South Africa and England.

John’s passion also extended to his family, with his sons excelling in first-grade cricket and his daughters representing Queensland in indoor cricket. Through the grandstand named in his honour, his remarkable contributions to cricket and his community will be remembered for generations. John McMahon’s life truly exemplifies a legacy worth celebrating.
