TS North Sydney's Jimmy Greenslade was at his destructive best during the First Grade T20 campaign in which the Bears made the Quarter Finals before getting tipped over by a classy Bankstown outfit. Greenslade has since travelled to Christchurch, New Zealand, to ply his trade for Burnside West Christchurch University CC, where he helped the club to their maiden T20 premiership before Christmas.

Born during the Second World War on 8 May 1942 in Alton, Hampshire, of the United Kingdom Martin went on to become an important member of the St George District Cricket Club during one of its most successful periods in its 110 year history to date.

During his career, Martin was given the nickname of “Big Fave” took 365 First Grade wickets at an average of 18.22 across 12 fine seasons.

Australia's most recent recipient of a Baggy Green, Sam Konstas, showed he was made for the big occasions when he stared adversity in the eyes and took down the best bowler on the planet in Jasprit Bumrah in his first test innings. But that wasn't the case when he arrived at North Sydney Oval wearing Sutherland colours in the 2022/23 season.

Olly Knight is one of the more senior bowlers in the UTS North Sydney attack, and thanks to an excellent catch by Timothy Reynolds at point, Knight had Konstas in his back pocket without troubling the scorers, as you will see below.

Malcolm Gorham was a scorer more in the Len Davis mould. At the age of 13, "Pencil" began scoring for Western Suburbs' AW Green Shield and Poidevin-Gray Shield teams, and he graduated to First Grade in the premiership season of 1972-73, taking over the role from Anderson.

Gorham soon abandoned the constraints of traditional scorebooks, devising his own format for a scoresheet that enabled him to record the progress of a game in a far more detailed way. Like most scorers, he had his idiosyncrasies, including a habit of leaving the Pratten Park scorebox a couple of times a day to walk a lap of the ground

Rajveer Masrani is a top-order batsman and fast bowler who joined Western Suburbs District Cricket Club at the beginning of the 2024-25 season.

At 15 years of age, Rajveer has already progressed up the ranks into 3rd grade and has shown great skill, control and maturity with his cricketing abilities.

In Round 5 of the 2024-25 season, Rajveer scored a blistering 71 runs off 69 balls in a convincing win against Sydney in fourth grade.

On this his 75th birthday (December 28th) it’s an appropriate opportunity to recognise the outstanding career of St George Hall of Fame member, Steve Bernard.

In his early career Bernard was known for his pace and venom, at St George he developed greater wile and cunning while still possessing the ability to put the batsman on the back foot. These skills saw him finish his six seasons at St George with 212 first grade wickets at 14.58. Remarkably he captured these wickets at a rate of one wicket every seven overs, any wonder he was the ‘go to’ for his captain.

My best grade team - Shane Lee 1990 to 2005

This was actually a lot harder than I first thought.

I played 5 years with Campbelltown in first grade from the age of 15 years to 20 and then moved to Mosman Cricket Club and played 10 seasons

I decided to include all players, despite their state or international duties. This team would beat most international sides on their day!

In 2023 at the St George DCC Annual Dinner, two more St George legends, this time from the 1980's, were inducted to the Hall of Fame which is located at the Norm O'Neill Cricket Training Facility in Penshurst.

St George DCC First Grade Player No.285 - Geoff Milliken and St George DCC First Grade Player No.295 - Warwick Hayes, were both inducted to the St George DCC Hall Of Fame in 2023.

The 2006/07 Green Shield season was one of immense success. This is both looking at the season itself, as well as its production of some of the clubs best future talent.

Club stalwarts such as Adam Gummer, Logan Weston and Jarrod Walter came out of the side, as well as successful Grade players such as Matt Mee, Nick McCallum-Toomey and Ed Burgess.

The history of Manly Oval
According to the late Mr. F. Trenchard-Smith, a former honorary secretary of the Club and a person to whom the Club owes a great deal for providing much of the information about the Club's very early days and about the Oval in particular, the site upon which the Oval now stands was, in the early 1800's, a dairy farm. The farm, in due course, was purchased by a Mr. Thomas Adrian, the grandfather of one of the Club's best-known players, the late Bruce Adrian, and he converted it into a recreation reserve and on a portion of it built a hostelry called the Ivanhoe Hotel. The recreation reserve he called Ivanhoe Park, and cricket was played on the Park on a concrete wicket covered with matting.

I was a wicketkeeper who Adam Gilchrist ruined. Before Gilly came along you could average 20 with the bat at 8 or 9 as a keeper as long as you could keep well. That was me, could keep OK and would like to think I could contribute with the bat even though I only had about 3 shots :). Thanks Gilly……

Sam Konstas became Australian Test player #468 on Boxing Day – the second Australian Test player with Greek heritage after Jason Gillespie. He is the fourth youngest Test player for Australia.

Sam was dismissed for 60 off 65 balls in 90 minutes, hitting 6 fours & 2 sixes. He brought up his 50 off 52 balls (5 fours & 2 sixes)

In 2013-14, pace bowler Pat Burns split his season between 2nds & 3rds. In 2nds, he played 8 matches and took 7 wickets at 41.1. However, he also played 8 matches in 3rds, where his figures were much more respectable – 8 matches for 29 wickets at an average of 11.8. This included two remarkable bowling performances:

Round 4 vs Randwick Petersham at Sutherland Oval

Randwick Petersham won the toss and batted. Pat Burns opened the bowling and took 1-2 off the first over, which also included a leg-bye. After the second over from skipper Josh Zywietz, the score was 1/7. The first ball of Pat’s second over went for four byes (1/11), followed by a dot ball. Then the fireworks started:

Not long after Simpson's retirement, the club also lost Peter Toohey and Steve Rixon, both of whom switched to new clubs after changing addresses. Rixon's departure should have created more opportunities for the gifted Dyer, but he had already moved to the Sydney club in search of a regular First Grade place. So Greg Bowden, Ray's son, became First Grade's wicket-keeper, and impressed with his agile work behind the stumps and some dogged lower-order batting.
