Gary Whitaker

In a Randwick Cricket Club career spanning 17 years between 1984 and 2001, Gary Whitaker has many fond memories. And although there were some spectacular moments during that period, there are two which stand out. One was his debut match for Randwick when he made an unconquered century and the other was when he met his wife Robyn, who came to Randwick to assist the club with some injury rehabilitation to a number of players. While he had met her previously when playing rugby, the relationship blossomed and as they say in the good books–the rest is history.

In 2022, Bernadette Robson joined the UTS North Sydney Bears, but she fell in love with cricket long before that…
Since joining the club, Bernadette (Bernie) has immeasurably contributed to the women’s side. Both on and off the field, she leads fiercely with a tough, yet kind approach that brings confidence to the whole team.

From being crowned Women’s 3rd Grade Player of the Year in her first season with the club to captaining the side, there is no doubt that Bernie performs on the field.

Penrith Cricket Club 2nd grade premiers 1998-1999. A title under the tutelage of Whologang

P for Penrith, P for Pride - P for Perseverance: pretty profound words those! Those words were, of course, to become part of the now famous Panther victory song, which in the end was to be bellowed out a total of 13 times, including after the qualifying semi-final, the semi-final and the final! Yes, P also stands for Premiership, which is what the Second Grade XI took back to the hallowed Howell Oval turf.

UTS North Sydney is delighted to welcome Simon Keen as Men’s Club Coach. Simon had an illustrious Grade career, scoring 5,709 runs predominantly for Bankstown (but with a few T20s for the Bears thrown in!) and taking 222 wickets, and played professional short-form cricket in NSW and New Zealand as well as representing Australia Under 19s. More recently, he has coached The Entrance, who have won the Central Coast First Grade competition for the last three seasons.

Penrith Cricket Club 1996/97 - 5th grade bring home the bacon

What a great victory for the Fifth Grade team, and what a great victory for the Club's youth policy. Coupled with the Green Shield triumph, the season's performance by the young cricketers in the club has been nothing short of outstanding. The aim of the Fifth Grade has always been to transition junior players into senior cricket and develop skills for later years. To ultimately win the final against a much more experienced team demonstrated clearly the rapid progress that the team made.

There’s something special about a team song. For about 14 seasons at Saints, I had the privilege of leading ours—starting in the 2s before finally earning my spot in 1st grade. When Chadd Porter passed the honour on to me, it wasn’t just about belting out words after a game. It was a badge of honour, a tradition carried forward by passionate Saints before me.

Penrith, the early history: A second premiership 1982/83

This was a truly amazing performance, the team's points score being a margin of 30 clear of their nearest rivals. Their 12 consecutive wins were a record for the club in any grade and would take some beating in the summers to come. In a sensible move, the NSWCA had decided that all Finals were to be at neutral grounds. Penrith's Semi-final was against Randwick at the Uni of NSW's Village Green but a wash out propelled the club into the Final against Bankstown at Hurstville Oval.

Formal CA-funded county placements, paying full player contracts to systematically embed 6–8 emerging Australians under Dukes balls.

A roaming CA development coach across counties to maintain technical standards and directly manage workloads.

Carefully structured BBL participation for this specific cohort to preserve multi-day habits.

These initiatives together form a world-leading system that no other Test nation is pursuing, directly shaping players like Hunt, Kellaway, Konstas, Bartlett, Sutherland, Murphy, Kuhnemann and Webster into a sustained Ashes and WTC force.

Gordon District Cricket Club 2004-5 First Grade Report

With a productive off-season the Stag's were looking to continue the good work which had been done by the recently retired Matthew Nicholson. There would be new players blooded throughout the year with season 2009/10 going to be a bit of an unknown. A new Skipper was inducted in Beau Casson and the side would start the season with a blend of experience (including two test players in Casson and Flynn) mixed with youth (17 y.o Chad Soper).

Chris Singh. Two hat-tricks….in the same match!

At the conclusion of the 2015-16 season, Chris Singh announced that after 22 years of Sydney Grade Cricket he had decided to hang up his boots. As a player who had an outstanding career in the lower grades, he was cheered for his achievements but sorely missed in the seasons which followed.

Chris Sumit Singh was born in Suva, Fiji on 16 March 1977

A 4th Grade premiership in the centenary year of this proud old club. Happy days. Having been so close in 2003-04, it was a just reward for Captain Reynolds to lift the Reid Cup at Killara Park on 3 April 2005. And the crushing victory in the Final – by nine wickets – underscored the fact that this was the best performed side in the competition all year. Only one loss was recorded, to Bankstown in Round 7 in a one-day game, while the runners up, Randwick-Petersham were defeated by Gordon twice at the business end of the season.
